The Welland Canal links Lake Ontario and Lake Erie and moves approximately 40,000,000 tonnes of cargo annually.

Niagara Region welcome new businesses and has set up programs to help nurture entrepreneurial companies to grow and prosper. Commuting


The Region's extensive network of roads makes it easy to get around. The ongoing expansion of the GO transit service means that you can leave your car at home and be connected to Toronto's Union train station, Via Rail, the Pearson UP Express airport shuttle, downtown Toronto, Toronto City Centre Airport and Mississauga Square One.



Healthcare


The Niagara Health hospital organization operates the health care facilities across the Region. It encompasses five hospitals and other medical facilities like diagnostic and specialty centres that work closely with the nearby Hamilton Health Sciences Centre. The state-of-the-art Niagara Health Centre in St. Catharines and the planned South Niagara Centre project in Niagara Falls will increase the Region's ability to provide vital healthcare services to Niagara Region residents.



Education


Niagara College, Brock University and several other secondary institutions provide college and university education and training. The Region also has four publicly funded school boards. The public school boards also run Adult Education classes. There are several schools that teach viticulture.  Welland is home to the only French first language high school which serves the French population of the Niagara Region.
